Inspiration: McLarens Negatives

During the Unit “Digital Futures: Critical Design”, I saw the movie McLarens`s Negatives and my tutor highlighted the analogie between Norman McLaren`s work in the past and Data Visualisation in the present.
McLaren created visualisations with sound by painting on a movie stripe directly.
You only change a variable and the whole movie sounds differently.

I also see analogie for multisensory data experiences as we can let the user pre-define what sound and what visualisation his own data will deliver in the end.

We can not change his data, however we can let the user allow to access

About the Movie on Wikipedia:
“McLaren’s Negatives is a 2006 short animated documentary directed by French Canadian filmmaker Marie-Josée Saint-Pierre. The film is a study of the Canadian animator Norman McLaren, and his personal view of film making. The short film won several awards, including the 2007 Jutra Award for best animated short film.”
